Now that we’ve been through the route numbering process, here are some more-or-less random thoughts:
I still think that the three digit format is overly complex, and I would prefer to have the first digit designate the type of route (e.g. 200s: school specials, 300s: evening/Sunday buses, 400s: community/flag buses). What’s done is done, though.
The implementation [...]

I’ve already written about the infamous Hoile Loop on the 222 Audley South route (and boy, it seems strange using these new three digit numbers).
This week, things have kicked up again as DRT has been handing out surveys to Audley South riders asking them how often they ride the route, whether they approve of removing [...]

DRT has posted new route maps and schedules for the renumbered routes effective July 28th. Note that no service changes are occurring at this time; this is simply a change in nomenclature.

I’ve been thinking a bit about how Metrolinx should target their regional transportation plan. Trying to create a plan to cover 25 years is a challenge given the difficulty in forecasting that far ahead. Not only do we not know what population growth in the GTA will be over the next several decades, nor where [...]

We are now over a week since DRT’s July 1 fare increase and the DRT fare page at http://www.durhamregiontransit.com/durham/index_e.aspx?ArticleID=80 still shows 2007 fares. Granted there is a link at the top of the page to the new fares, and granted that the small fare “widget” at the bottom left of the DRT home page shows [...]

Metrolinx has announced that the draft Regional Transportation Plan and Investment Strategy have been delayed until the end of September. Here are the relevant links:

The comment in the Star article that Metrolinx has not shared the full plan with the province yet seems to deliberately miss the point a bit. It’s clear that the investment [...]

The deadline for commenting on the Metrolinx White Papers is this coming Thursday. If you haven’t had a chance to read and comment, I urge you to do so before the deadline so that your comments can be considered in the draft Regional Transportation Plan (the RTP) – although realistically most of the work on [...]

I posted last week that DRT will finally complete their migration to the three-digit route number format at the end of the month. The following note was posted on the “Bus Routes” page at the DRT web site:
Effective July 28, 2008 Durham Region Transit will introduce new three digit route numbers. Routes will not change, [...]
