Below is a screen capture of the DRT home page as of one minute ago. As I’ve already written, there is a fare increase in effect on Tuesday, only four days away. And yet, there is NO mention of the fare increase on this home page.
True, someone going to the fare details page would find out – but regular riders already know what their fare is and would not make a point of checking the fare details page. And true, there is a press release about it from March, but I would be stunned if the average rider checks press releases. I do, but that’s just me. Most people don’t.
No, in DRT we have a transit system that does not believe that a fare increase deserves front page space on their web site. But I guess that makes sense – downplay it given the fact that it comes in a year with service cuts and no progress in building a true regional transit system.
Sigh. I really don’t want to have to keep writing about the small things. I really don’t. But how can we trust a transit system to get the big things right, when even a small thing – like actually telling customers about an upcoming fare increase – is difficult to get right?
