First, I noticed an add in today’s Ajax News-Advertiser (and presumably in the other local Metroland papers) about the DRT fare increases. Granted it wasn’t a large add and it was buried a bit further back in the paper than it could have been, but it was there. Still, given that the cost of advertising [...]

Below is a screen capture of the DRT home page as of one minute ago. As I’ve already written, there is a fare increase in effect on Tuesday, only four days away. And yet, there is NO mention of the fare increase on this home page.
True, someone going to the fare details page would find [...]

As regular readers will know, I’ve tried to avoid getting into the cycle of critical posts on DRT lately, instead preferring to focus on positive developments, principally at Metrolinx. But sometimes, DRT makes it so hard to resist. This is one of those times.
Yesterday I purchased more co-fare tickets for my trip to the [...]

Metrolinx has recently begun using a new logo on printed materials and other communications, although they have not yet applied it to their web site. I first saw this on printed copies of the Metrolinx white papers.
It’s an interesting logo, in that the new “M” mark is simple and straightforward, yet the arcs surrounding [...]

As I’ve posted, there will be public meetings on the 407 extension next week. A bit of detail has leaked out courtesy of the Town of Ajax, which included the following in a report on the progress of the 407 EA:
Through the preliminary design stage the Project Team has determined the location of the transitway [...]

I generally focus this site on transit in Durham and not on the broader issue of transportation (including roads, rail, etc). The two are directly interconnected, though, and our goal needs to be to build a complete integrated network that meets our needs, recognizing that getting people out of cars to whatever extent possible is [...]

Agenda materials have been posted for Metrolinx’s board meeting on Friday, and while this is largely a “taking care of business” meeting, some interesting items are included.
In particular, there are some refinements of timelines for the Metrolinx Regional Transportation Plan. We should now see the draft Plan tabled at the July 25 board meeting, and [...]

Metrolinx’s new white papers are progressing towards the release of the draft Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), which is now expected in late July. This is a delay from the previous schedule, apparently to provide more time for consultation in the pre-RTP period. This is a good move, since once we get to the point of [...]

A little while ago I wrote about some controversy over a “loop” at the end of the R22 Audley South route in Ajax. This loop is on Hoile Drive and Audley Road near the end of the route, where both roads are particularly narrow and where the buses need to make tight turns to navigate [...]
