An article on newsdurhamregion.com gives some updated information on the BRT plan:
First phase could be up and running in three years, with completion in five.
BRT service would replace GO’s route 94, but the express and semi-express routes would remain.
DRT buses would run every 7.5 minutes during peak times, every 15 minutes at other times. [...]

Today’s provincial budget has provided $82 million for Durham Region to implement a “quick start” phase for the Highway 2 BRT. This is the amount recommended by Metrolinx late last year as part of it’s second round of “quick win” recommendations to the province, which were mostly adopted by the province today.

Transit Toronto has an interesting article on the GO ALRT proposal back in the 70s and 80s.
