A small note: a notice was posted on the DRT site about next week’s service cuts. In addition to listing all of the changes you are already aware of, the note confirms that the Audley North and Puckrin route merger during rush hour is postponed pending a final routing decision. No word on when it [...]

Having posted details from the budget documents, what’s my final take? Those who have been regular readers will no doubt be expecting me to rail against Regional Council here, but the situation is a bit more complex than that.
The fare increase is not desirable, but it is comparable to other current fares in the [...]

The 2008 Transit Servicing and Financing Study provides some details on progress towards the Bus Rapid Transit implementation. In addition, I have a copy of DRT’s submission to Metrolinx for “quick win” status on the initial phase of implementation. The following material is combined from both sources:
The proposal describes a transit network consisting of the [...]

The official announcement for the March service changes, effective March 3 is up, including revised schedules and maps. This includes the significant changes to schedules on 915 Taunton and 916 Rossland, as well as other changes in Oshawa and Clarington. Strangely, there is no announcement of the rush hour combination of Puckrin/Elm and Audley [...]

The 2008 DRT Servicing and Financing study includes a table of proposed service improvements for 2009 and beyond. Each year’s increase totals roughly 33,000 revenue hours at an average cost of about $2.8 million, representing about 10% of DRT’s current budget. To understand the terminology better, a single bus providing service for 8 [...]

DRT’s 2008 Servicing and Financing Study includes some interesting details on ridership:
2007 ridership is up 9.7% over 2006, although note that 2006 contained 49 weeks of service due to the strike. This is within 2.7% of the agressive target set by DRT for 2007.
51% of riders are students, indicating that DRT is still having trouble [...]

I’m reorganizing the category structure I use for posts, so if you’re used to looking at the topics list, it’ll look a little different today. There’s nothing wrong and you haven’t missed any posts; I’m just trying to clean up some of the mess created over the last year.

I’m in possession of a copy of DRT’s 2008 Servicing and Financing Study, which is the key DRT report feeding into the Region’s 2008 budget process. It covers the entirety of DRT’s service plans for this year, as well as providing a great deal of information into plans for future years. Note that this study [...]

I’m going to start with a look at DRT’s customer communications in 2007. DRT’s web site was much the same in 2007 as it was the year before, but some reorganization had been done to improve layout. Some of the changes were suggested by me, and it appears DRT was listening, and for that I’m [...]

I’ve been promising to write about 2007 in review for a few weeks now. I’ve been fairly busy, but am now going to begin. This blog began in January 2006 with a review of DRT’s initial year of service. You may recall that my review was somewhat mixed. In some areas, [...]
